How Sales Tax Works on TCGplayer

Why am I charged sales tax on my transaction?

Sales tax is charged for any order that includes a same state Seller that is utilizing a third-party eCommerce provider to sync their inventory. This is when the Seller is located in the same state as the Billing Address entered by the Buyer.

Why am I charged sales tax for orders shipped to Connecticut (CT), Georgia (GA), Minnesota (MN), New York (NY), North Carolina (NC), Ohio (OH) or South Carolina (SC)?

TCGplayer has employees in those states. Since we pay health insurance, issue stocks options and provide other benefits to those employees, we are required by law to collect tax on sales in those states.

How is sales tax calculated?

If an item is subject to sales tax in the state to which the order is shipped, tax is generally calculated on the total selling price of each individual order. In accordance with state tax laws, the total selling price of an item will generally include item-level shipping/handling charges.

The amount of tax charged on your order will depend upon many factors, including location of the seller and destination of the shipment. Factors can change between the time you place an order and the time of credit card charge or PayPal authorization, which could affect the calculation of sales taxes. The amount appearing on your order as Estimated Tax may differ from the sales taxes ultimately charged. If you have any questions about your order always feel free to contact us. We’re here to help you.
