Getting Started

 

The Category + Deal block is a convenient tool to use to show off two specific things: Product Categories and Deals. Product Categories allow for your store to highlight and showcase specific categories of products that your store is wanting to push. In the same block, you can also highlight specific deals or sales that your store is pushing.

 

Adding the Category + Deal Block

In order to get started with adding and editing your block, follow these steps:

1. From your myShopify home page, select Online Store > Customize
2. On the customization side bar on the left of the page, scroll down to Add Section
3. From the Add Section selection, add Category + Deal Block
4. Following the addition, scroll up and find and select the Category + Deal Block section to begin your customization
5. From here, you can either begin editing the section by selecting the Category + Deal Block title or by adding sections by selecting Add Block

 

Editing the Category + Deal Block

Titling Blocks

Before you begin adding sections to this block, we recommend that you start by naming your sections. In order to begin doing this, please find and select Category + Deal. From here, you will see the option to edit the titles for the following to parts:

• Category Block
• Deal Block

 

Category Block

Main Title

You can title your Category Block by inputting text into the Main Title text box. This title will appear above the product categories that your store will highlight.

 

Deal Block

Main Title

You can title your Deal Block by inputting text into the Main Title text box. This title will appear above the deals that your store will highlight.

 

Length of Characters for Short Product Description

In this text box, you can input a numerical value that creates a max character limit for the short deal description given by your store.

 

Adding Blocks

After you have created your section titles, you can begin adding your blocks into this area. After you can selected Add Block, you will notice a small pop-up that further divides the section into two parts:

• Product Category
• Deal

 

Product Category

If you are wanting to add a chain of product categories for customers to be informed of, you can select Add Block > Category. Once you have added the blank category tab, you can select that Category Block to begin editing it. While editing, you will notice several areas for customization, such as:

• Image
  
• Title
• Link

 

Image

Within this section, you will notice that you have the ability to add an icon image. You have the ability to add your icon by selecting Select image. Please also be aware of the size of the image that you choose. You will notice instructions and recommendations for image size in this section. It will look something like this:

 

If you choose an image that is larger than the recommended size, the quality and visibility is very likely to suffer as a result. Please understand that this size recommendation is based on optimization across all potential viewing platforms (computer, smartphone, tablet, etc.)

 

After you have chosen your image, you will notice another customization option become available: Add alt text.

 

Adding alt text is a good way for your to include addition descriptions that will appear just beneath your icon. You can add up to 255 characters to this alt text feature

 

Title

You can title your Product Category section by inputting text into the Title text box. This title will appear above the individual categories that your store will highlight.

 

Link

This drop down / text box allows for you to input a hyperlink or connect the Product Category to another page or collection on your store's website. it will look something like this:

 

 

Please be aware that you can select multiple product category blocks. They will stack vertically in an expandable table based on the order that they are assigned in the sidebar. The end result can look something like this:

 

Deal

If you wish to include a section dedicated to upcoming / ongoing deals or sales, you can customize the Deal section to cater to these needs. Once you have selected Add Block > Deal Product, you can open the Deal Product block to begin customization. Here you will see:

• Select Your Product
  
• Start Date
• End Date
• Coupon Code

 

Select Your Product

In order to more quickly help your customers find the products that deals will be running for, you have the option to link the specific product. By clicking Select Product, you can open a search menu and directly link a specific product from your store's site.

 

Start Date and End Date

Because deals and sales are, by nature, time sensitive affairs, you will have the ability to create both the start and end date for whatever deal your store wishes to run. Please make sure that you are correctly inputting the date with the necessary structure: YYYY-MM-DD.

 

This deal will automatically begin running upon the start date. Likewise, it will close automatically once it reaches the end date. If there are no currently running deals, then this section will remain totally blank - please be prepared for this blank area on your store's webpage

 

Coupon Code

If your deal is exclusive or if it requires some sort of coupon or code, you can also input that code data into the text box for this final section. This code will appear alongside the deal, so long as the deal is active.
