How to Add to and Edit the Category Block

About the Category Block

The Category Block is a means for your store to highlight any number of items, events, or links across your website. If you are trying to push or promote an upcoming product, update on a restock, or bring attention of any kind, these blocks allow you to do so. As with other links across your website, you can input any website or create collections to organize the products that you want to show in your Category Block.

Organizing the Category Block

Finding and Editing the Category Block

In order to find the customization screen for your store's webpage, and in order to organize your blocks, please follow these steps:

From your myShopify homepage, go to Online Store > Themes
Find and click Customize
You will see the customization menu on the left of your screen. Click the drop-down arrow to the left of Category Block
If you do not see Category Block, scroll to the bottom of the customization menu and select Add section
From here, find and select Category Block to add the section to your page

Adding Categories

Before you begin to customize the section as a whole, you will need to begin adding the categories that you wish to display. To add them, please click Category Block > Add category. At this point, the titles will be Category Title; each time you click Add category, you will add an empty Category Title block. To edit these, please click Category Block > Category Title. In each block, you will notice four sections:

You are able to add over 20 Category Titles per each Category Block. Because the categories are displayed with a cycling animation, the amount of space taken up by 3 categories is the same as 20. Please be aware, however, of how long it may take your customers to cycle through all of the categories your store adds

Click Select Image to add your Image to your Category Title section. Please notice the recommended image size below this section. It will look something like this:

Icon

Click Select Image to add your Icon to your Category Title section. Please notice the recommended image size below this section. It will look something like this:

Please note the differences in size between your Image and your Icon. The Image will serve as the background, while the Icon is a small marker in the foreground. We recommend experimenting with designs and pairings to create an aesthetic that matches your store's ideas

Title

Changing the Title of your category allows for your customers to understand how the linked information is collected and organized. Some examples for titles can be:

MTG
Pokémon
Black Friday Sales
D&D Events

Link

In the text box in this section, you can input a web address or choose another page from the drop-down menu. This link will connect with the Image/Icon of the category. The drop-down menu will look something like this:

After Adding Services

Organizing Category Order

After you have finished adding all of your categories, you can adjust the order that they are shown in (from left to right) by dragging and reordering them using the 6 dot symbol to the right of each category. You can see this symbol here:

Customizing Category Block Presentation

After you have finished adding and organizing your services, the last step to consider is how you wish to present them. In order to do this, please click on Category Block. Here you will notice one section: Main Title

Main Title

Your Main Title is how you label all of the categories you want to present in each Category Block. Some possible examples of Main Titles and their respective categories are:

2. Flesh & Blood
