Scan & Identify FAQ
Please note, Scan & Identify is currently in open beta.
1. What is Scan & Identify?
Scan & Identify is a tool that helps you quickly:
- Import cards for automatic identification and matching to the TCGplayer Catalog.
- Find new matches if the system incorrectly identified the scan.
- Create inventory items that can be pushed directly to either staged inventory or live listings.
2. How do I start using Scan & Identify?
If you're a Pro Seller, you have automatic access to this tool –– no need to opt-in. Check out How To Use Scan & Identify to get started. If you're interested in using Scan & Identify but aren't a Pro Seller, we encourage you to reach out to us for more information.
3. Can I scan cards directly into Scan & Identify?
Scan & Identify does not currently have scanning integration, so you will need a scanner or image scanning application that captures image files. We recommend using the QuickScan application (available on iOS or Google Play Store), the Ricoh fi-8170, or any similar automatic document feed (ADF) scanner. While these are the current options, we are planning on integrating scanning functionality directly into Scan & Identify. This is one of the many exciting enhancements planned for future updates, as we continue to develop and refine the tool during its open beta phase.
4. How do I import scans into Scan & Identify?
- Select the “Import” button.
- Add one or more image files or one Roca Sorter CSV.
- Indicate printing and condition for the cards in the import.
5. What product lines does Scan & Identify support?
Currently, Scan & Identify supports Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, and Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. We're committed to expanding our product lines, with additional offerings planned by Q2 2025.
6. What are the requirements for importing files into Scan & Identify?
- Only one import at a time. Imports can have either multiple image files or one Roca Sorter CSV, but not both.
- File types: JPG, PNG, CSV.
- Image files must be less than 15MB and in portrait orientation.
- Images must be at least 300px on the shortest side.
- No more than 3,500 image files per import.
7. What happens if there are errors during file import?
Files with errors are automatically excluded and listed with error details. Correct the issues and re-add the files or proceed without them. If errors are found during processing, the files are removed from the batch and must be corrected before re-importing.
8. How does Scan & Identify handle non-English cards?
Scan & Identify can identify non-English cards only if there is an English version with the same artwork. Identification success may vary depending on how text impacts visual aspects of cards.
9. How does Scan & Identify handle duplicate cards?
Scan & Identify keeps duplicates in separate rows for verification. When pushed to inventory, duplicates are merged into one quantity.
10. What if Scan & Identify cannot identify some scans?
Scans with poor match confidence will appear in the “Unidentified” tab. You can:
- Delete them.
- Confirm the system’s match.
- Manually match the scan to the TCGplayer Catalog.
11. How can I find a catalog match manually?
- Click “Find Match” in the “Unidentified” or “Matched to Catalog” tabs.
- Enter the card name or number in the search field.
- Select the correct match from the results.
12. What is the “Match Confidence” column?
It shows the system’s confidence in the card match accuracy:
- Good: ~99.9% confident.
- Fair: ~98.94% confident.
- Poor: Low confidence; sent to “Unidentified” tab.
- Manual: User-confirmed match.
13. How do I push items to inventory from Scan & Identify?
- Find matches for any scans that are unidentified.
- Review any other scan matches as needed.
- Choose to export the list as a CSV or push directly to inventory.
- Items in the “Unidentified” tab cannot be pushed to inventory and will be deleted upon pushing the rest of the batch.
14. How can I review catalog match details?
Click the card name or “eye” icon in the “Matched to Catalog” tab to open the “Catalog Match Details” drawer, where you can compare scan and catalog images, navigate matches, and swap matches if needed.
15. How does Scan & Identify utilize roles and permissions in the Seller Portal?
Scan & Identify does not currently interact with the TCGplayer Seller Portal settings for users and roles. As long as your main login for your seller account has access to the new Scan & Identify tab, all users under your account will also have access to Scan & Identify.
