When Should I Use Scan & Identify

The following guidance is designed to help sellers determine when to use Scan & Identify versus our other card identification tools.

Use Cases

  1. Purchasing small to mid-sized trade-ins (a deck or less) at the counter
  2. Rapidly processing a high volume of trade-ins during an event
  3. Evaluating large collections for purchase
  4. Valuing and sifting an unsorted “drawer of doom” of singles (a few hundred or so) that need to be sorted and put away
  5. Valuing and sifting unsorted large volumes of singles (a 5-row box or more) that need to be sorted and put away

Solutions for Card Scanning & Identification

These are tools we recommend for card scanning and identification

  • The TCGplayer Mobile App, which integrates with the TCGplayer Seller Portal.
  • The Roca Sorter, which can optionally be used in conjunction with Scan & Identify. (Note that we do not offer an integration with the PhyzBatch-9000 at this time).
  • An automatic document feed (ADF) scanner such as Ricoh fi-8170, used in conjunction with Scan & Identify.
  • A non-TCGplayer mobile scanning app that does not integrate with the TCGplayer Seller Portal, such as QuickScan, used in conjunction with Scan & Identify.
  • Quicklist, which integrates with the TCGplayer Seller Portal. It works only on Windows PCs and is not capable of set detection for reprints and cards with similar artwork.
