What Should I Charge for Shipping?
What is a shipping rate?
A shipping rate is the amount you charge for shipping an order. From the Shipping Settings area of the Seller Portal, you can set different shipping rates for each product size: Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.
What should I know before setting my shipping rates?
Before listing products, please be mindful of the impact shipping rates will have on your store and your ability to properly ship items to customers within our Shipping Guidelines. Canceling a customer order because your shipping settings were not correct is unacceptable and may be grounds for termination of your Account.
As agreed to in our Terms of Service, by listing an item in our marketplace you agree that you have the right to sell the item, the item is in your possession and that the description provided in your listing is complete and accurate. Sellers are required to ship an order by the provided ship date.
How do my shipping rates affect where my listings appear on the Marketplace?
TCGplayer.com sorts listings according to their total cost: price + shipping rate. Please read Shipping Settings & How They Impact Your Sales for more information on how your shipping rates help determine where your items rank against other sellers’ items.
How does TCGplayer assign a shipping rate to an order?
From the Seller Portal, you can set a shipping rate for each product size (Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large). When a buyer makes an order, a shipping rate is assigned once for the largest item in the order.
Examples:
- Your Small shipping rate is $1.27. If a buyer were to add 5 Small items to their cart, they would be charged $1.27 shipping for the entire order. Notice that they would be charged once per seller order, not once per item.
- Your Large shipping rate is $8.99. If a buyer were to add two Large items, six Medium items and four Small items to their cart, they would be charged $8.99 shipping for the entire order. Notice that only the largest item in the seller order would affect the shipping rate.
Can I set a shipping rate that doesn’t match the actual costs of shipping?
Yes. However, there will often be times where the shipping rate you collect on an order is less than the expense of shipping the product. In order to lessen this impact, you may want to increase the price of your items or increase your shipping rate for each size category.
Example: Your Medium shipping rate is $2.99. If a buyer were to add 10 Medium items to their seller order, a shipping rate of $2.99 would be applied for the entire order. When you go to the post office to ship the package, the actual cost to ship the parcel may be $6.99, which is $4.00 more expensive than your shipping rate. You then have a few options for future orders. You can increase the shipping rate itself or increase the price of your individual items by $0.40 to cover potential shipping charges in the future.
